Dissecting poo in science
This afternoon we dissected a range of animal poos ( handmade with oats and cocoa powder so not at all smelly like their real counterparts). We found evidence of their diet and used this to determine whether the animal was a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore. We then used this knowledge to predict…
Making Roman Spelt Bread
Class 2 finished off their Romans topic by creating a staple Roman food - Spelt bread. They followed a traditional recipe making loaves in teams. We then finished the afternoon by exploring Roman diet and creating Roman menus.
Sustainable fishing
Class 2 have learnt about the importance of fishing sustainably. They have looked at the harm overfishing can do to the environment and created posters to promote fish free Fridays.
They have also made sandwiches using fish products that were sustainable sourced.
Water Testing in the Local Area
The children took a local area walk this morning to take part in the Parish Council river testing.
We enjoyed testing the PH level of the water and investigating wildlife around the river.
We look forward to going again soon.
Seasonal cooking
Class 2 have been working hard learning about seasonal British fruit, vegetables and meat. They made stuffed peppers and meatballs. Great skills learnt everyone!
A visit from Leo Wright Studios
Wow! What an incredible afternoon. We were so lucky to have a visit from Leo Wright Studios, an animator and creator. It was incredible to build an understanding of how animations are made and look at puppet making and movement. The children then had a character masterclass where they were able to…
Eggselent Experiment
This week in science we have been exploring how to keep our teeth healthy. We used eggs as a replacement for our teeth and have placed them in different drinks, we are going to check in on them next week.
We then explored the history of toothpaste and even made our own.
Getting practical in maths
We explored division and exchanging today for the first time using place value grids and counters. We confidently grasped dividing into equal groups and exchanging practically.
How do our teeth work?
This week in science we tasted different foods including crusty bread, apples, grapes and sweets to see which teeth we used. We used scientific language to label each type of tooth and then made play doh models of the different types.
Seasonal food fun!
Class 2 have started their final DT unit of the year today with a little bit of baking! They will be exploring seasonal food and taking part in making many delicious baking tasks along the way. What an exciting unit!
Creating a replica digestive system
This week, in science, class 2 have created a model of the digestive system. They used a range of materials to recreate what happens to our food when it enters our body and then used scientific language to explain the process. A messy but fun way to kick of our new unit.
What should we wear today?
Today in maths we explored correspondence problems. We completed practical activities to calculate the maths behind combinations of snacks and drinks, gloves and hats or ice cream and toppings. Lots of maths and lots of fun!
